The Bella Pilates UK Studio

What is pilates?

Pilates was developed by German born Joseph Pilates who believed mental & physical health were closely connected.
Pilates exercises are done on a mat or using special equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac and Wunda Chair.
With its system of pulleys and springs, handles and straps, the apparatus can provide either resistance or support
depending on your needs.
Pilates is essentially about re-educating your body, undoing the damage that years of stress and immobility inflict!
Life doubled up over screens, stressing about deadlines or just day to day stresses and strains that modern day brings
take a considerable toll on posture and, as a result, the effect it has on our physical, spiritual and emotinal well being!

Can anyone do Pilates?

YES!
Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels!
I have taught elite ballet dancers, people recovering from surgery, to those who have chronic illnesses! There is always a way pilates can help!
If you have any health concerns such as a health condition or an injury please seek advice from your gp or health professional before starting any exercise program! I would ask that you bring a note from your GP outlining the problem so we can work together!

Joseph Pilates

"Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit."

Pilates is not just about great posture and a rock-hard core. It is more than just a physical exercise, and can radically enhance mental, emotional and spiritual well being too.

Pilates Quotes

Joseph Pilates

"Breathing is the first act of life and the last. Our very life depends on it. Since we cannot live without breathing it is tragically deplorable to contemplate the millions and millions who have never mastered the art of correct breathing."

Joseph Pilates

"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference..."

"In 20 sessions you'll see the difference and in 30 you'll have a new body."

About Me

Pilates - a huge part of my ballet training.

Having trained as a ballet dancer from the age of 4, Pilates and fitness have always been part of My life!

From the age of 8, having being introduced to Alan Herdman who famously brought pilates back from America to the UK in 1970 and who set up Britain’s first ever pilates studio, I have been doing pilates ever since!!

Pilates was a huge part of my classical ballet training where I studied with the Royal Ballet School from the age of 8 through to working with the Royal Ballet Company itself while a graduate student at the Royal Ballet upper school, touring to Boston with Swan Lake and performing in many productions at the Royal Opera House such as The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Giselle, Manon, Firebird, la Valse, File mal Garde and la Bayadere.

Having graduated from the ROYAL Ballet School at 19, I went on to perform with English National Ballet where we performed around the UK with Cinderella and the Nutcracker!!

Life After Ballet

Hanging up my shoes

After many years in the ballet industry I felt I needed change and my love for pilates and the fitness industry led me to take a leap and change my path!

Post 2011...

Pilates Instructor

I did a personal trainers course at the YMCA Central London! I learnt how to train in different environments, more about nutrition and health checks. I qualified as a personal trainer (REPS member) in 2010 and decided that my learning was not complete, so I contacted Alan Herdman and completed his Pilates training course in 2011!

I worked at both Alan's Seymour Street studio and Canary Wharf and also with Matt Roberts at his studio in Hampstead, where most classes were focused on one to one training using the pilates machines.

During this time I was also able to go back to my ballet roots and got a job teaching Pilates mat work classes to the Royal Ballet upper school students in Covent Garden!

I took a break from teaching when my 2 children were born, but even during and after pregnancy I continued pilates.

I am very excited to be opening my own studio. It is something I have always wanted to do and I look forward to teaching my clients how to incorporate a healthy balanced life of exercise into their daily routine!

I aim to make each client reach their goals but to also make sure they see exercise as a new way of life they enjoy. Each session will be tailormade to suit each individual's needs.

I believe exercise should be fun and not a chore and that it’s not just fitness - “its life”!
